It was an immense joy to collaborate with the Sisters of Life and the families they support once again on new murals for their downtown Manhattan location! Sr. Magdalene and I spearheaded this project together with help from the sisters and volunteers, and hosted two painting days, inviting families and individuals from their network to come paint with us. This project truly became a community-wide process- it takes a village!
Designs on the murals feature Our Lady Star of the Sea and an image of Cardinal O’Connor, the founder of the Sisters of lIfe, blessing the city with a radiating monstrance– both are icons of hope for the sisters and the local community they support. The murals were hung in August and have since created noticeable slowed foot traffic in front of the church as people pause and take the artwork in on their commute to work. The paintings also provided a beautiful backdrop to an outdoor concert event the sisters presented.
