Last Friday I got to work in-person with the youth group kids at the Missionaries of Charity house in Harlem. Together, we worked to create this group paper mosaic project, featuring Our Lady of Guadalupe (a patroness of many of the children and their families).
We learned about icons and saints, & looked at mosaic artist Fr. Marko Rupnik for inspiration. Then, we used his mosaic examples and techniques to strategize patterns and color choices, and worked together to complete each section; similar to how Fr. Marko’s community studio works together to complete their large scale works.
It was a joy to be with the kids again in person, even if things look different right now with masks, etc. Please keep these kids, their families, and the Missionaries of Charity here in your prayers.
