In the midst of all that is going on here in NYC, it has become obvious that beauty is needed now more than ever. Beauty helps us pause, slow down, and dive deep into the mystery of who we are & who God is. Beauty has the power to uplift, to bring people together, and to change hearts; it gives us sight to see God's face in our local communities.
This has been the basis of my prayer in recent months, and it has become the theme for ministry and community art projects I have been a part of this fall. One such project was a temporary mural which currently hangs outside of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Manhattan along with work by 25 other artists. The mural features portraits of people in various states of spiritual and material poverty, and it encourages viewers to seek God's face in the poor.
If you’re in the Manhattan area, please check out this show before it comes down on Dec. 4th. If you can’t make it in person, click here to check out the virtual tour on the Openings website.
